A protest march turned violent near the Jharkhand Assembly today. Hundreds of people gathered to demand their rights and show their anger toward recent government policies. However, what started as a peaceful rally soon turned into chaos. At least five people were injured during the heavy clashes between the police and the protesters.
The protest was organized by local groups, students, and political workers. They wanted to bring their long-standing demands directly to the state leaders inside the Assembly. Their main worries were about local job quotas, recruitment policies, and better protection for native rights. The group believed that marching to the Assembly was the best way to make their voices heard clearly.
For weeks, these groups had been raising their voices on smaller platforms. Since they did not get a clear reply from the leaders, they decided to organize a huge rally toward the high-security Assembly area.
To stop the crowds from breaking into the Assembly building, the local police put up heavy barricades. Hundreds of police officers were stationed along the main roads. As the large group of protesters approached the final checkpoint, the energy in the crowd grew very tense.
Some protesters tried to push through the metal barricades. The police asked them to stop, but the crowd continued to press forward. Soon, arguments broke out. Suddenly, some people started throwing stones at the police force. To control the situation, the police used water cannons and fired tear gas shells into the crowd.
The quick turn of events caused a stampede-like situation. People ran in all directions to save themselves from the tear gas smoke. During this commotion, at least five individuals received serious injuries. Some were hit by flying stones, while others were hurt during the rush.
Ambulances were called to the scene to carry the injured people to nearby public hospitals. Doctors reported that all five people are currently in stable condition, though they are receiving close care for minor fractures and bruises.
There’s more to life than simply increasing its speed.
