Exploring AI’s Powerful Expansion And Its Future Across Industries
- 6 mins read
Imagine waking up to news that your state is about to get a massive, futuristic upgrade worth a mind-blowing ₹25,000 crore. Sounds amazing, right?
That is exactly what happened recently in Uttar Pradesh. The state government announced a huge deal with a startup to build Artificial Intelligence (AI) cities, universities, and data centers. But just 24 hours later, the whole thing hit a massive speed bump, leaving everyone wondering what exactly went wrong.
Let's break down the drama, the internet backlash, and why the government had to step in and hit the brakes so quickly.
It all started on March 23. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath took to the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to share some massive news. He posted that the 'New Uttar Pradesh' was embracing the power of AI.
The announcement highlighted a ₹25,000 crore Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with an AI startup called Puch.AI.
The promises were huge. The deal was supposed to bring AI parks, large-scale data center infrastructure, AI commons, and even a dedicated AI university to the state. Reports suggested that a 40-acre site near the Lucknow airport had already been picked out to build India’s very first AI City. And it wasn't just Lucknow other cities like Noida, Kanpur, Varanasi, and Prayagraj were also set to get pieces of this massive tech pie.
It sounded like a dream come true for tech lovers and the youth looking for future-ready jobs. But almost immediately, people started asking questions.

Whenever a number as big as ₹25,000 crore is thrown around, people are going to dig into it. And the internet did not hold back.
Social media users and influencers quickly started looking into Puch.AI, and what they found raised some serious red flags. A community note even popped up on the Chief Minister's post, pointing out some harsh claims:
Facing this massive wave of questions and concerns, the UP government had to do some quick damage control. Just one day later, on March 24, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath issued a clarification.
He explained that signing an MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) is not the same as handing over a blank check. He stated that the agreement was just a preliminary step before they did any real checking or project evaluation.
Basically, the government clarified that this was just an initiation of the process by the state's investment arm, Invest UP, to explore the AI sector. They made it very clear that:
There’s more to life than simply increasing its speed.

This effectively turned the massive investment announcement into a simple exploratory chat, cooling down the hype significantly.
Of course, Puch.AI wasn't going to stay quiet. The co-founder of the startup, Siddharth Bhatia, stepped up to defend his company.
First, he clarified that this deal was structured as a public-private partnership. This means the state government wasn't actually spending any of its own money on this right now.
He also shot down the rumors about them only making ₹20 lakh a year. He blamed that number on a mix-up by an AI tool that confused them with another company that has a similar name. He said their actual revenue figures are private but will be shared at the right time.
What about the lack of a proper app? Bhatia defended their WhatsApp-only chatbot by saying it was totally on purpose. He argued that making people download a brand-new app creates a barrier for users who are new to AI. By keeping it on WhatsApp, it remains easy and accessible for everyday people.
Even though this specific startup deal had to be quickly walked back and clarified, the Uttar Pradesh government is still heavily pushing its tech dreams.
The Chief Minister continues to talk about expanding the state's IT, electronics, semiconductor, and data center sectors. He proudly noted that UP already accounts for a huge chunk of electronic manufacturing in India, and the dream to turn Lucknow into a major AI-focused hub is still very much alive.
At the end of the day, the government’s quick clarification was a smart move to manage everyone's expectations. It shows that while the ambition to grow is there, the state will rely on strict background checks before any real work begins.
Whether Puch.AI actually gets to build its AI city or if the MoU gets canceled, only time (and a lot of paperwork) will tell. But it is a great lesson for everyone, a grand announcement is exciting, but due diligence and fact-checking are what actually build the future.
