Kerala High Court Directs State to Ensure Better Facilities at POCSO Courts

When we talk about justice, we often think of judges, lawyers, and courtrooms. But for young victims of crime, the journey to justice can be very scary. Recently, the Kerala High Court took a very important step. The court gave strict orders to the State government to make sure that all POCSO courts have proper and adequate facilities. This is a big win for child rights and the safety of young people in our society.

Why POCSO Courts Need Special Care

POCSO stands for the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences. It is a special law made to protect children from abuse and to punish the guilty people quickly. However, having a good law is not enough. We also need good places to make the law work properly. Many courts in India do not have enough rooms, waiting areas, or child-friendly spaces. When a child goes to court, they are already feeling scared and stressed. If the court building is dark, crowded, and unfriendly, it makes the child feel even worse. Sometimes, the child might even run into the accused person, which can cause deep mental trauma. Just like we need to learn 5 lifestyle habits for peak mental performance to keep our minds healthy, young victims need a safe and calm environment so they do not lose their mental peace during a court trial.

What the Kerala High Court Said

The High Court of Kerala looked closely at the problems in these special courts. The judges noted that many courts lack basic things like separate waiting rooms for children, clean toilets, and video-conferencing tools. Video tools are very important because they stop the child from seeing the accused face-to-face. The court clearly told the State government that it cannot delay this work anymore. Funds must be released, and the infrastructure must be fixed as soon as possible. Justice for children cannot wait for paperwork and long delays.

Creating a Child-Friendly Atmosphere

A child-friendly court does not look like a normal scary courtroom. It should have colorful walls, toys, books, and trained staff who know how to talk to kids with love and care. When a child feels safe, they can speak the truth without fear. If the government provides good facilities, the judges and counselors can do their jobs much better. Political leaders also make big changes sometimes, such as when CM Vijay revokes astrologer OSD appointment after backlash, showing that listening to the public and fixing mistakes is very important for good governance. In the same way, the government must listen to the High Court and fix these court facilities quickly.

There’s more to life than simply increasing its speed.

The Role of Society and Government

Fixing court buildings is only the first step. Society also has a big role to play. We must protect our children and report crimes without shame or fear. The government must make sure that every district has fully functional POCSO courts with enough staff, counselors, and modern tools. When the system is strong, criminals will know they cannot escape punishment. Let us hope that other states in India also follow the great example set by the Kerala High Court and make justice accessible and kind to every child.
