BRS Demands Full In-Patient Services at TIMS Sanathnagar in Hyderabad

Healthcare is one of the most basic needs of every citizen. In recent political developments in Telangana, the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has strongly demanded the immediate start of In-Patient (IP) services at the Telangana Institute of Medical Sciences (TIMS) in Sanathnagar, Hyderabad. While basic outpatient consultations are available, leaders and local residents feel that without full hospital admission services, the facility cannot fulfill its true purpose.

What Is Happening at TIMS Sanathnagar?

The TIMS hospital at Sanathnagar was planned to be a major super-specialty center. It was designed to provide top-class medical care to thousands of poor and middle-class families living in and around Hyderabad. However, currently, the facility is functioning primarily for Out-Patient (OP) services. Patients who come with severe conditions, sudden emergencies, or the need for surgery are often asked to go to other hospitals.

BRS leaders have visited the area and raised their voices, asking the state government to make the hospital fully functional. They pointed out that a huge building with modern medical machinery should not remain underutilized when poor patients are struggling to find hospital beds across the city.

Why In-Patient Services Are Crucial for Citizens

Outpatient services allow doctors to check patients, write prescriptions, and suggest tests. But what happens when someone needs overnight observation, intensive care, or major operations? That is where In-Patient (IP) care comes in. Without IP services, a hospital cannot handle severe illnesses or life-threatening emergencies.

Quick access to hospital beds and emergency medical infrastructure can save countless lives. We often see how the lack of nearby emergency care causes deep pain, as seen in critical safety issues like the tragedy in Maharashtra where three students died of snakebite. Having functional super-specialty hospitals right inside urban neighborhoods ensures that no patient loses precious time traveling far distances for emergency care.

Reducing the Burden on Gandhi and Osmania Hospitals

For decades, major state-run hospitals like Osmania General Hospital, Gandhi Hospital, and NIMS have been under huge pressure. Thousands of patients arrive every single day from all districts of Telangana and even neighboring states. The wards in these hospitals are often packed beyond their normal capacity.

The entire idea behind setting up TIMS in four corners of Hyderabad—including Sanathnagar, LB Nagar, Alwal, and Gachibowli—was to divide this heavy load. By opening full in-patient facilities at TIMS Sanathnagar, patients from areas like Kukatpally, Balanagar, Jeedimetla, and Secunderabad would get admitted locally without rushing to Gandhi or Osmania.

There’s more to life than simply increasing its speed.

Affordable Healthcare in Times of Economic Strain

Private healthcare costs have gone up significantly in recent years. For common families facing rising household costs and inflation, paying for private hospital beds, ICU charges, and expensive surgeries is nearly impossible. Global economic factors and currency shifts, such as the USD to INR rupee fall explained in financial markets, continue to push up the prices of imported medical equipment and medicine.

Because private medical treatment is so expensive, public hospitals must step up. A functioning TIMS Sanathnagar with hundreds of functional IP beds, clean wards, and qualified doctors will protect low-income families from falling into heavy debt due to medical emergencies.

Key Demands Raised by the Opposition

The BRS delegation and local public health advocates have listed specific demands for TIMS Sanathnagar:

1. Immediate recruitment and deployment of specialized doctors, resident medical officers, nurses, and paramedical staff.
2. Full operationalization of the Emergency and Trauma Care wings.
3. Activation of Intensive Care Units (ICU), surgical theaters, and diagnostic labs for admitted patients.
4. Ensuring free distribution of all essential medicines directly at the hospital pharmacy.
5. Complete transparency regarding the timeline for opening all remaining hospital departments.

Conclusion: Making Healthcare Accessible for Everyone

A modern hospital building is only as good as the care it provides to the people who need it most. The demand for full in-patient services at TIMS Sanathnagar is a vital public welfare issue. Citizens hope that the government responds quickly by allocating the necessary budget, staff, and medical supplies so that TIMS Sanathnagar can run as a complete, life-saving medical center for Hyderabad.
