Mboladinga, who is often called 'Lumumba Vea'—meaning 'Lumumba Lives'—has spent years studying the life and speeches of this leader. He says that Lumumba was inspired by global icons, much like those studying new skills to learn faster in our modern world.
Mboladinga’s goal was to bring a patriotic boost to the 'Leopards,' which is the nickname for the Congo national team. He wears the glasses, the fitted jacket, and the hairstyle that Lumumba was famous for. He believes that by embodying this historical figure, he can inspire his team and his people. He even noted that Lumumba felt a strong connection to Indian leaders like Mahatma Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru, showing how stories of leadership cross borders just like we see in stories about modern royalty.
Even though the Congo team has reached the knockouts for the first time, Mboladinga is facing a challenge. He was recently denied a visa to enter the United States. This means his dream of watching the Round of 16 match against England in Atlanta might not come true. Despite this, he remains a symbol of national pride and a reminder that history lives on through the people who remember it.
