Exploring AI’s Powerful Expansion And Its Future Across Industries
- 6 mins read
If you have been planning to buy a new Mac or iPad in India recently, you might have noticed a sudden shock. Apple has quietly increased the prices of its popular devices across the country. Many loyal customers are wondering why these costs have jumped so significantly almost overnight.
The primary reason for this change is the rising cost of memory chips. These are the components that help your computer and tablet store data. Tim Cook, the CEO of Apple, recently warned that rising costs in this area were becoming impossible to avoid. Just like the complex issues seen in global matters such as the recent international tensions, the tech world is also facing a major supply chain squeeze.

This shortage is not just about bad luck. It is happening because companies building AI infrastructure are buying up massive amounts of memory chips to train their models. When demand is this high, manufacturers charge more, leaving companies like Apple with fewer affordable options. This has caused prices for consumer devices to climb at a scale we have not seen in years.
The impact in India has been quite sharp. Some products have seen price hikes between 14 per cent and 46 per cent. The HomePod Mini saw the biggest percentage jump, moving from Rs 10,900 to Rs 15,900. Meanwhile, professional devices like the 11-inch iPad Pro and the base model MacBook Pro have seen their prices surge by tens of thousands of rupees.
Interestingly, Apple chose not to touch the prices of the iPhone. This shows that the company is trying to protect the demand for its most important product. Much like the way infrastructure projects navigate local challenges, Apple is carefully picking where it can afford to pass costs on to the consumer and where it must hold the line.
There’s more to life than simply increasing its speed.

While these prices are higher, industry experts suggest that Apple’s premium customer base will likely continue to buy. Many users utilize trade-in programs or monthly payment plans to manage these higher costs. Even with the price hike, Apple remains in a strong position compared to its competitors because its ecosystem is so integrated.
As we move further into the age of artificial intelligence, it is clear that the costs associated with these advanced technologies will continue to influence everything from data center budgets to the price of your home laptop. For now, it is a waiting game to see if memory chip supply will stabilize or if this is the new normal for tech shoppers in India.
