In the world of politics, words matter very much. Leaders often talk to each other, argue, and share their views with the public. Recently, a very important statement was made by Tiruchi N. Siva. He said that tolerance is not acceptance. This simple sentence has made many people stop and think about how politicians treat each other and how people live together in society. Let us look closely at what this means and why it is so important for our daily lives.
When we say we tolerate someone, we usually mean we put up with them. We let them stay in the same room or share the same space. However, it does not mean we like them or agree with their ideas. Tolerance is often just the bare minimum. It is like dealing with bad weather because you have no other choice. You do not smile at the rain, but you do not stop living your life either. In politics, rival parties often tolerate each other because democracy requires them to do so. They sit in the same assembly, but their hearts and minds are very far apart.

Just like voters show their power during big events such as a record breaking voter turnout India elections, political leaders must also show true respect to the people. True respect goes much deeper than just tolerating an opponent. It means listening to different ideas and trying to find common ground for the good of the country. Sadly, true acceptance is very rare in modern politics.
Acceptance is a much stronger and warmer feeling. When you accept someone, you welcome them. You respect their right to be different from you. You do not try to change them or push them away. Tiruchi N. Siva pointed out that political rivals often just tolerate one another. They might shake hands in public, but behind closed doors, the anger remains. This fake peace does not help society grow. When leaders only tolerate their rivals, their followers also learn to hate or dismiss the other side.

Think about how we treat our bodies and minds. Just as athletes improve sleep quality by taking care of their daily habits, our political system needs a healthy environment to grow. If leaders only have anger and fake tolerance, the whole system gets tired and sick. We need true acceptance of different views so that we can solve real problems like poverty, education, and health.
There’s more to life than simply increasing its speed.

Political rivals are supposed to fight for the best ideas, not fight each other as enemies. Democracy works best when people with different views can talk openly and respect one another. When tolerance is missing or when it is mistaken for real love and friendship, democracy suffers. Leaders must learn to accept that other people have the right to different opinions. This does not mean they have to agree with every single policy. It simply means they respect the personhood and the voice of the rival.

Mr. Siva's message is a strong reminder for everyone. It tells us that simply tolerating someone is not enough to build a strong nation. We must move past mere tolerance and try to understand one another. Only then can we have peace and true development in our society.
Tolerance is a good start, but it is not the final goal. We need to aim higher. By turning tolerance into true acceptance, political leaders can set a great example for the young generation. Let us hope that more leaders listen to these wise words and work towards a kinder, more accepting world.
