The family, farm workers, lives in a small home on a vast palm oil plantation, bordering a dense forest. On that day, the toddler walked out with her stray dog. A villager provided a critical clue: he saw the girl and dog at the plantation's edge, near the forest. He tried to call her back, but the dog, acting protectively, barked fiercely. The startled villager retreated, unknowingly leaving them to a perilous journey.

A Loyal Dog's Distressed Return

Three agonizing days later, on June 9, the stray dog reappeared. Its return, however, brought no comfort. The animal was clearly distressed, anxious, and refused to eat, a silent testament to a harrowing ordeal.

Clinging to hope, the mother followed the dog as it moved towards the forest edge. But seeing a large crowd, the dog became overwhelmed and ran back. Its behavior has remained erratic, deepening the family's anguish.

The Extensive Search

A massive search is underway, deploying over 300 individuals: police, a specialized anti-Maoist team, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), volunteers, and police canines. Drones tirelessly scan the vast plantation and challenging forest, yet every hour passes without a trace.

In a desperate effort, police fitted the dog with a GPS tracker on June 12, hoping its unique bond would lead them. It initially moved correctly but soon became abnormal and aggressive, yielding no clues. Deputy SP A G Tilak expressed frustration. With nearly a week passed and dense forest, hopes of finding the toddler alive tragically diminish.
