Delhi Government to Provide Free Bicycles to Class 9 Girls

Why is the Government Doing This?

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced this scheme in the 2026-27 Delhi Budget. The goal is simple: to help girls stay in school. Many girl students in government schools often drop out because they find it hard to travel to their classrooms. Lack of transport makes it difficult for them to reach their schools on time. By giving them free bicycles, the government wants to make sure these students do not have to rely on anyone else to get to class. It is about giving them independence and the freedom to learn.

How the Scheme Works

After that, it will spread to all other areas of Delhi. Once this program is running, new students who enter Class 9 each year will also be able to get a bicycle.
